Medan in North Sumatra
is one of the most ancient cultures dating back to prehistoric times
which form the basis of the province’s cultural background and
traditions are found here.
North Sumatra, Indonesia and adjacent island have many sites of
interest, among others: Hilisimatano, a village on Nias Island,
noted for its ritual stone jumping and ancient traditional houses;
the Sipisopiso waterfall; Pematang Purba ,a 200 years – old village,
famous for the houses of its tribal chiefs; Lake Toba, one of the
largest and highest inland lakes in the world; the 300 sq miles
Samosir island with its megaliths and 300 years old stone seats in
the middle of the Lake Toba; Bawomataluo village,400 meters above
sea level and accessible by 480 stone steps and the Grand Mosque in
Medan.
